It’s nice to say “Support Local.”  It’s another thing to live by that, and even base a business off it.  We’re proud of Maui’s dedicated agricultural industry; we’re also proud to be recognized for our efforts to support and promote them.

Fork & Salad Maui has been included in the 2017 ‘Aipono Awards, receiving a special honor known as the “Friend of Agriculture” award (along with winning Silver for Best Healthy Fare and Honorable Mention for Best New Restaurant)!  Maui Nō Ka ‘Oi Magazine organizes the restaurant awards, chosen by readers and the community, which recognize some of the top food establishments and chefs on the island.  The magazine also puts on an awards ceremony, which had a fun “Out of This World” space theme this year.  Maui County Farm Bureau selected Fork & Salad as this year’s “Friend of Agriculture”, and shared these kind words about our business.

“Since opening their first restaurant, the chef-owners have supported local, and with Fork & Salad, they have created a completely new market for local agriculture,” says Maui County Farm Bureau Executive Director Warren Watanabe. “In addition, the chefs are active in their support of the bureau through their participation at the Maui County Agricultural Festival. They are also excellent promoters of farmers and ranchers on their menus, website, ads and social media.”

Maui Nō Ka ‘Oi Magazine even made a video as part of the “Friend of Agriculture” award presentation, which you can view above, and wrote an article that mentions our “fresh take on farm-to-table cuisine.”  We’re grateful to the magazine and the farm bureau for their support of our support!

We understand and respect how hard our farmers and suppliers work.  Not only because we utilize the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labor among our 50 fresh ingredients on a daily basis, but because we actually visit the farms and know our producers by their first names.

We want you to know them too.  That’s why we’ve produced short videos on many of our farms, to give you an in-depth look at what’s growing and how it’s grown with care, quality and professionalism. Check out the Farms section on Fork & Salad’s website for a virtual tour of these amazing places in our “Know Your Farmers” series.  Growing everything from greens to fruits to nuts, each farm has its own personality, making them different but special in their own unique ways!

You’ll see the list of 25+ local suppliers on the chalkboard at our restaurant. You can taste the difference of these fresh, top-quality ingredients throughout our menu.  You can also meet some of our farmers in person during our mini-farmers’ market during Kīhei’s 4th Friday town party every month. We are honored to help spread accurate awareness about Maui ag, and hope you’ll join us in sharing this important knowledge.  It matters — to Maui’s economy, community and vitality!  #EatLocalEatHealthy #EducationAwarenessKnowledge
